Three JMB cadres arrested in Rangamati town


On 5 December 2005 at around 7.00 p.m. following three JMB cadres were arrested from a hotel at 
Reserve Bazar in Rangamati town:

1)    Shamim Hossain (24) s/o 
Md. Abdul Aziz of Amin Bazar of Savar 
in Dhaka;
2)    Md. Yusuf (21) s/o Md. Abdul Aziz of 9 Mohiuddin Lane under Chock Bazar Imamganj in Dhaka;

3)         Mahfuzur Rahman (24) s/o Md. Abdur Rahman of 9 Mohiuddin Lane under Chock Bazar Imamganj in Dhaka.


The JMB members came Rangamati from Dhaka on that day and hired two rooms of Razu Boarding (hotel) 
at Reserve Bazar in Rangamati town. The police of Kotowali police station arrested them from the hotel receiving secret news. 
However, the arrestees denying involvement with JMB told to the police that they had come in Rangamati for site seeing. But in a primary interrogation by police, they 
confessed that they left some valuables at Hathazari Bara Madrasa while they were coming Rangamati from Dhaka. The police produced before Rangamati court on 6 December 2005 and took them for remand from the court. Police takes JMB 
District Coordinator for Rangamati district to police remand On 14 December 2005 Ishaq Quaderi, 28 years +, JMB District Coordinator 
for Rangamati Hill district was arrested by Longadu Police 
Station personnel from Rabeta Model College premises of Longadu upazila (sub-district) in Rangamati district. He was 
arrested in connection of Rangamati bomb blast, a part of nation-wide bomb blast on 17 August 2005
. Abul Basar alias Hossain Ali, the JMB suicide squad 
activist from Tangail district who was arrested seriously hurt on the spot in Chittagong Judge Court bomb attack on 29 November 2005 (two were killed and 
at least 17 were injured) disclosed Ishaq Quaderi's identity as JMB District Coordinator
 for Rangamati Hill district. It is believed that Quaderi was operating his JMB activities in disguise of a lecturer of 
Rabeta
 Model College. He was produced before Rangamati court on 15 December 2005 and a 7-day remand has been granted for police interrogation.
 The police was very strict and did not allow taking his photograph. Despite that, it is learnt, 
some Jamal of a local daily took his photograph for which he was chased by the police personnel. 
The strictness maintained by the police raises suspicion.

Al-Rebeta Al-Islami, an Islamic NGO has been operating in Longadu upazila under Rangamati Hill district since many years back. The locality is densely populated 
by politically transmigrated Bengali Muslim settlers who have been living on the lands of Jumma people driving them out. Al-Rebeta hospital 
and Rabeta Model College at Longadu upazila headquarters are its major visible activities.
