Army manhandles Buddhist Monk in Bermachari

A Buddhist monk has been manhandled by members of Bangladesh Army in

Bermachari under Kawkhali Upazila of Rangamati district.
The incident occurred at around 9 a. m. on 24 December 2005 when soldiers from Khiram Army camp under the command of Subedar Aziz raided two village

Shops in Raktachari.


The army men encircled the shops in such a lightening speed that people present there got panicked and began to run helter-skelter. The soldiers gathered every one including venerable Chima Waisha Vikku near the shops and misbehaved with the monk. They made him walk up and down and asked him demeaning questions to hurt his religious sentiment, such as “Will you drink wine? Have you got married ? Will you get married ? etc.
The army men also searched the shops but failed to find anything incriminating and tortured five persons. The victims have been identified as Mong Shi Pru Marma (32) s/o Chai Thui Aung Marma, Augyo Jai Marma (65) s/o late Kya Hla Pru Marma, Chuila Pru Marma (30) s/o Aung shau Marma, Chaila Pru Marma (29) s/o Chai U Pru Marma and Kyahalanu Marma (15) s/o Usha Aung Marma (UP member). All are residents of the village of Roktachari.
