Attack On Hilly Village
Punishment to culprits demanded
RU Correspondent
Adivasi Chhatra Parishad of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday condemned the attack on a hilly village at Baghaichhori in Rangamati on April 20 and demanded punishment to the people responsible for the assault.
The adivasi students in a written statement strongly protested the attack on the innocent indigenous people. They said the culprits not only looted properties of the people, but also tortured innocent women and children.
“Following the incident, many indigenous families took shelter in jungle and many of them are still leading inhuman life under the open sky.”
The attack on indigenous people was pre-planned for grabbing their land, adding that local administration also led the culprits and did not take any action against them, they said.
They urged the caretaker government to take steps for a neutral investigation into the attack, demanded compensation for the affected family members and assurance of their land rights.
The statement signatories are ACP Convener Harandranath Sing and Join Convener Maksual Chakma.
