Memo to PM demanding cancellation of CHT accord

Somo Adhikar Andolon (SAA), an organisation of local Bangalees, yesterday sieged the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) in the hill town Khagrachhari.

During the siege programme from 10:00am to 12:00 noon, the SAA leaders submitted a memorandum to DC Humayun Kabir for its onward transmission to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Before the siege programme, a protest meeting was held in front of the DC’s office.

Speakers at the meeting called for implementation of their 9-point demand that included cancellation of CHT Peace Accord signed by Awami League Government and Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS), setting up of more army camps for their security, rehabilitation of 84 Guchcha Gram people and trial of Shantu Larma and his accomplices.

Chaired by SAA District President and BNP leader Abu Yousuf Chowdhury, the meeting was addressed by Khagrachhari Municipality Chairman Joynal Abedin, Ramgaar Municipality Chairman Belayet Hossen Bhuiyan, Matiranga Municipality Chairman (acting) Badsha Mia, and SAA Secretary Mostafizur Rahman.

Several thousand people including public representatives, advocates, journalists, NGO-personnel, social workers, and educationists from 9 upazillas of the district were present at the meeting.

Earlier, a protest procession was brought out.
