Kathin Chibar Dan, the biggest religious festival of the Buddhist community in Chittagong Hill Tracts, has begun at Rangamati Rajban Bihar amid great enthusiasm and religious fervour.

On the first day of the two-day festival yesterday, devotees took part in pancha-shilla prayer.

Indragupta Sthabir, senior disciple of the chief monk venerable Sadhana Nanda Mohasthabir widely known as Bana Vante, inaugurated the Bain Ghar (weaving house) at Rajban Bihar at 3:00pm.

Later, Devashish Roy, chief of the Chakma Circle (Chakma King) inaugurated the Chorka (spinning wheel).

Speaking on the occasion, Devashish said, “We pray for peace and prosperity of every people.”

Referring to recent cyclone that hit the costal belts, he said, “We also pray to god so that such disaster never occur in the country again.”

This year some 800 bain workers (weavers) are preparing chibar (cloths) for Buddhist monks.

Today’s programmes include stitching of chibars, offering of meal to monks, rendering of religious songs, offering of pancha-shilla prayer, delivering of religious speech from holy Thripitak by Bana Vante and lighting of candles.
